Annual Jules Levy Memorial Golf Outing, 2010
At its 2010 golf outing, the Mineola Lions awarded the prestigious Melvin Jones Award to Past President Rick Volpe for his dedicated leadership of the Club and exceptional service to the community. Rick, the owner of Van Buren Buick Pontiac GMC in Garden City Park, served as President for two years, during which time the Club raised and donated tens of thousands of dollars. Rick has chaired the golf outing for a number of years. Through his extraordinary efforts and the support of the entire Club membership, the golf outing has continued to be a smashing success in the midst of a difficult economy. The Club was proud to raise more than $30,000 which the Club will spend on various charitable causes and community service projects. The Club supports programs for the sight and hearing impaired, Winthrop Hospital Diabetes Prevention Program, scholarships for Mineola students, Mineola Youth and Family Services, Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corp. and many other worthy causes and community groups.

Proceeds from the event were donated to organizations such as the Guide Dog Foundation, Lions Long Island Eye Bank, Winthrop Diabetes Prevention Center, and many community groups.
